Day Two. Patterns. Love.
Oh, if only I could knit faster! I plan to knit every single one of these. Twice.
Two new gaiters/scarves/cowls/granny bandannas--Ruffled and Ruched Scarf and Cowboy Cowl. (My favorite knitting genre, dontchyaknow.) Pam Powers is a new designer on the scene--at least for me--and I'm happy to introduce her designs to the shop this week. Pretty sure the cowl is the next on my knit list....or maybe the scarf. Dang. Choices.
Next we have a few shawls: Simmer Dim by Gudrun Johnston (The Shetland Trader), Ishbel by Ysolda Teague (a restock) and Wast Side by The Shetland Trader (another restock).
How about hats? Breiwick Beret and Linga by The Shetland Trader and A Most Bespeckled Hat by Alexandra Tinsley (Dull Roar), who's another new designer here at the shop. (This hat is perfect for anyone who loves polka dots as much as I do. Which is a lot.)
And for the littles: Elijah and Smith by Ysolda and Picot Baby by Grace Akhrem. Seriously. A knitted hedgehog. (A shower gift for a pair of nontraditional parents, perhaps?)
Pampering for the feet: the super-popular French Press Felted Slippers by Michigan knitwear designer Melynda Benardi. So cute!
And for the fashionable woman. I am so, so excited to bring in these patterns from one of my favorite designers, Cecily Glowik MacDonald of Winged Knits. Wool & Honey is currently stocking Goodale and Candelia...
...as well as Idlewood and Breakwater. These patterns are so beautiful. My favorite part of Cecily's style? Her attention to detail. Small, perfectly placed pockets, tiny decorative buttons, subtle waist shaping that flatters the female form--she's a true designer. And it doesn't stop with the knitwear--look at the hand-stamped, hand-lettered envelopes the patterns come in:
It's these details that make it such a joy to work with small, indepedent designers and companies.
ETA: I've made my choice--The Ruffled and Ruched Scarf. I've got a skein of Malabrigo Worsted in Surf Blue wound and a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc at my side. I'm in for a wonderful evening.
